The Masters of Education (EdM) comprehensive curriculum found in each program allows the study of educational research and theory while deepening content knowledge of your selected program. EdM program offerings are diverse and interdisciplinary. At SED, you will benefit from the collaborative, close-knit student body and the engaged faculty.

The following EdM programs may lead to licensure upon completion of the program and Massachusetts testing requirements:

  • Curriculum & Teaching
  • Early Childhood Education
  • Education of the Deaf
  • Educational Media and Technology
  • Elementary Education
  • English Education
  • Health Education
  • Mathematics Education
  • Physical Education and Coaching
  • Reading Education
  • Science Education
  • Social Studies Education
  • Special Education
  • Teaching English as a Second Language
Applicants for the master’s degree must hold a bachelor’s degree or its international equivalent from an accredited institution. If accepted into an EdM program, candidates must complete a minimum of eight graduate-level courses or the equivalent amount of credits, 32, that are approved by the advisor for program completion. One 4-credit course must be the designated research offering. Departments may require additional coursework or a thesis beyond the minimum stated herein.
There is a moratorium on applications to the following programs for the 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 academic years.
  • All programs in Educational Media and Technology
  • EdM in Modern Foreign Language Education
  • EdM and CAGS in Policy, Planning & Administration with a sub concentration in Community Education Leadership
